The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is hiring permanent and temporary Highway Maintenance Specialists across Colorado! Typical Highway Maintenance Specialist positions require a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or B with no restriction on air brakes, and two years of physical labor and/or heavy operation experience.  • Permanent positions start at $1,955/ Bi-Weekly with full benefits. • Our flexible Temporary positions start at $24.44/ hour • We are offering retired CDOT maintenance personnel temporary positions at $25/ hour, or at hourly rate upon retirement, if higher • We also occasionally offer entry-level Highway Maintenance Trainee positions focused on learning about CDOT's maintenance operations while pursuing your CDL Class A or B (Select positions with “CDL Training Provided” in the title also don't require a CDL at time of hire, so check individual announcements for specific requirements.) These positions are eligible for 1.5 X overtime pay, shift differential, on call pay and a winter performance bonus. Depending on location, some positions also offer a housing stipend. (Type “Highway Maintenance” in the search bar) Duties May Include: • Drive snow plows, trucks or tractors  • Make minor adjustments and repairs to equipment • Inspect, clean, repair roads, bridges, tunnels, other structures  • Remove litter, hazardous objects, debris from roadways  • Install/repair guardrails, road shoulders, highway lighting  • Set out signs and cones for "traffic control safe zones"  • Assist in signing and striping highways • Respond to emergencies 24 hours per day/7 days per week Applicants may be subject to pre-employment drug test and background check after receiving a conditional offer of employment.
